Meet Our Board of Directors

Every member of our board of directors is a thought leader who has made significant contributions to Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy worldwide.

We are thankful for the unique set of skills and expertise they each bring to our organization.

President,  Stefan G. Hofmann, Ph.D.

Welcome to our community. I am honored to serve as your president. The Academy is quite unique. Our mission is to support continuing education and research in cognitive-behavioral therapies and to provide a resource in these treatments for professionals and the public at large.

We actively work towards the identification and certification of clinicians skilled in these evidence-based therapies. Certification is awarded to those individuals who, based upon an objective evaluation, have demonstrated an advanced level of expertise in cognitive-behavioral therapies. The Academy includes physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals from around the world. To date, there are over 1000 Members of the Academy.

We are a multidisciplinary certifying organization specifically for cognitive-behavioral therapies that evaluates applicants' knowledge and ability before granting certification. Certification by the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies indicates to the public, potential employers, and other clinicians that the individual is a skilled therapist.

Again, welcome!

A-CBT Board

The Academy is a vital link between cognitive therapists, researchers, and the diverse communities we serve. As a Board member, I’m honored to represent so many passionate, dedicated, and wonderfully supportive colleagues committed to evidence-based practice.

Elaine Elliott-Moskwa, Ph.D.

I have served on the board of A-CBT since 2015. The Academy is my professional home and has been a source of inspiration, information, and connection with colleagues worldwide.

Scott Waltman, PsyD, ABPP

I have a deep love for the Academy. It is my professional home. This is the best place for therapists from the broad range of cognitive and behavioral therapies to connect with each other.

Denise D. Davis, Ph.D.

Members of A-CBT share a deep commitment to the highest standards of mental health care. As a Founding Fellow and Trainer/Consultant since 2000 (member #246), and Board of Directors Treasurer since 2018, it is an honor to participate in this community of excellence.

Janee Steele

Board Member-At-Large

The advancement of culturally responsive CBT is a primary goal in my
work as a CBT therapist and scholar. Being on A-CBT’s Board of
Directors connects me to other likeminded professionals who have also
made commitments to ensuring cultural sensitivity in the application
of CBT among diverse populations.

Mudita A. Bahadur, Ph.D.

Board Member-At-Large

I have been a Fellow with the Academy since 2003, and an active Trainer-Consultant since 2014. As part of the Board of Directors, I seek to enhance the Academy’s goals of training with a focus on diversity and inclusion, increasing international members, and fostering a culturally and developmentally sensitive approach to CBT.

Lizbeth Gaona, LCSW

Board Member-At-Large

As a bicultural and bilingual woman of color- a Latina, being the chair of the Diversity Action Committee (DAC) of the Academy has been fully aligned with both my personal and professional values. I am proud of the Academy for supporting the efforts of the DAC, and I welcome the opportunity for continued growth in the area of Diversity within the A-CBT Community.

Joel Becker

Board Member-At-Large

At this stage in the evolution of CBT, I believe the Academy will have the important task of credentialing CBT clinicians using a broad umbrella and inviting diversity in both the membership and the approaches currently empirically validated.
