Judith S. Beck, Ph.D.


Judith S. Beck, Ph.D., is the Director of the non-profit Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research in suburban Philadelphia (www.beckinstitute.org) and Clinical Associate Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1982 and currently divides her time between administration, supervision and teaching, clinical work, program development, research, and writing.

Dr. Beck is currently a consultant for several NIMH research studies. She has presented numerous workshops nationally and internationally on a wide variety of topics related to cognitive therapy. She is the author of the widely adopted textbook, Cognitive Therapy: Basics and Beyond, which has been translated into 18 languages. She co-authored the Beck Youth Inventories for Social and Emotional Impairment, which has recently been normed up to age 18. Her other books includeCognitive Therapy of Personality Disorders, The Oxford Textbook of Psychotherapy and Cognitive Therapy for Challenging Problems. Her first book for consumers, The Beck Diet Solution, will be published in April, 2007.
