Stefan G. Hofmann, Ph.D.
Stefan G. Hofmann, Ph.D. is Professor of Psychology at the Department of Psychology at Boston University where he directs the Psychotherapy and Emotion Research Laboratory (PERL). He was formerly affiliated with Stanford University and SUNY Albany. Stefan received his BS, MS and Ph.D. from the Department of Psychology at the University of Marburg, Germany. His main research questions focus on the mechanism of treatment change, translating discoveries from neuroscience into clinical applications, emotion regulation strategies, and cultural expressions of psychopathology. He has been studying anxiety disorders, especially social anxiety disorder, and schizophrenia. He has been supported by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, and other private foundations. He has more than 100 scientific publications and 6 books. He lives in Boston with his wife and two children.
