Lata K. McGinn, PhD is the President of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and is a tenured Professor of Psychology, Director of the Doctoral Clinical Program, and Director of the University-based Cognitive Behavior Therapy Training Program for Anxiety and Depressive Disorders at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She is also co-founder of Cognitive Behavioral Consultants. Dr. McGinn specializes in the cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety and mood disorders, and has been treating and conducting research on these problems since she received her PhD in 1993 from Fordham University. She has authored numerous publications, including co-authoring two books, titled "Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder" published in 1999 by Jason Aronson, Inc. and "Treatment Plans and Interventions for Anxiety and Depression,” published by Guilford in 2011. Dr. McGinn presents her research worldwide and is regularly invited to conduct keynotes, lectures, seminars and workshops throughout the world to professionals, consumers, schools, agencies, and companies. Her research focuses on vulnerability and prevention of anxiety and depressive disorders. She has recently developed an intervention to prevent the development of depression and has tested the efficacy of this intervention in a NIH funded research study.


Dr. McGinn is a Past-President of the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy. She has also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and currently serves as its International Associates Chair. She is a Founding Fellow and a Diplomate of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy and is a certified ACT Trainer.  In recognition of her achievements in the field of cognitive behavior therapy, Dr. McGinn has earned the title of Beck Scholar by the Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research and was appointed a Fellow of the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Psychotherapies. The Association of Behavior and Cognitive Therapies also awarded her a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her professional contributions made on a Trauma Taskforce following September 11, 2001. She is also a founding fellow of the New York CBT (NYC-CBT) association. Dr. McGinn is associate editor of the journal Cognitive Therapy and Research, is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Cognitive Therapy and on the advisory boards of the Journal of Cognitive Behavior Psychotherapy and Cognitive and Behavioral Practice. She has also served on Division 12, APA’s taskforce on Evidence-Based Doctoral Training.
