Application Criteria for Trainer Consultancy

Certified Diplomate Member of A-CBT for (5) Years

Applicants must be a member of the Academy of CBT for a minimum of five (5) years to be eligible to apply to become an A-CBT Trainer Consultant. Once Certified, Trainer Consultants are eligible to conduct training services on behalf of the Academy of CBT.



30 Hours Minimum CBT Supervision Training

A minimum of thirty (30) hours of supervisory experience in CBT is required. Of this requirement, a minimum of twenty (20) hours in supervisory training sessions must be completed, along with five (5) hours of didactic coursework and five (5) hours of completed CBT supervision workshops. 

Trained to Use Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale (CTRS)

Training in the use of the Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale (CTRS), and demonstrated fidelity on the CTRS is required to apply for Certification as a A-CBT Trainer Consultant. Applicants will be required to score two (2) provided standardized audio samples within one standard deviation of the mean.

    The application process consists of two parts: Part I involves a preliminary review where demographic, training, and supervision experience information is requested. Part II requires a personal supervisory model based on CBT principles to be submitted. Initially, an application fee of $450 is required, and the total process should be completed within two years of initial application.

  • What are the criteria to become an A-CBT Certified Trainer/Consultant?

    Training includes a minimum of 30 hours in supervision, which encompasses self-study or didactic coursework, CBT supervision workshops, and supervision of supervision training. Additionally, training in the use of the Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale (CTRS) is necessary, along with demonstrated fidelity on the CTRS.

  • What is expected from an applicant in terms of supervision experience?

    Applicants are required to have supervised at least three mental health professionals for a minimum of four months. They should be capable of structuring supervision, addressing relationship issues, and demonstrating sensitivity to diversity, along with being knowledgeable about ethical and legal issues of supervision.

  • What title do I obtain from A-CBT Trainer Consultancy?

    Successful applicants will earn the title “A-CBT Certified Trainer & Consultant." This title allows them to serve as a supervisor, trainer, or consultant in professional behavioral health settings, contingent on maintaining their status as a Diplomate or Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive & Behavioral Therapies and the continued payment of associated dues.
